Reflexology

What is reflexology?
Reflexology is an holistic therapy based on the principle that reflex points on the feet (or hands) correspond to areas throughout the body - reflexology zones. These reflex zones are worked with the fingers and thumbs using massage techniques to stimulate pressure sensors, triggering a relaxation response, helping correct imbalances and releasing blocked energy throughout the body.
Reflexology encourages good health, promoting relaxation, stress relief and self healing in the body.
Brief history of reflexology
The oldest documented evidence of reflexology dates back to c.2300 B.C on an Egyptian tomb, with similar methods known to have been practised in India and Japan. Modern day reflexology is based on these principles, with Dr William Fitzgerald, and America ear nose and throat specialist developing his own method of zone therapy. Over the years, practices were developed and in the 1930's Eunice Ingham developed the "Ingham Method of Compression Massage" which was renamed Zone Therapy Massage and introduced to the UK and Europe in the 1960's by one of Ingham's students, Doreen Bayly.
What can I expect from a reflexology session?
Before your session begins, I will go through a confidential consultation to discuss your medical history and the benefits to be achieved from the treatment.
You will be invited into the treatment room where you can relax on a reclining couch, as just the feet are being worked, you will remain fully clothed and simply remove your shoes and socks.
Your feet will be cleansed at the start of the treatment and then a variety of massage techniques will be used depending on your individual needs.
Your treatment will last approximately 60 minutes.
