Lymphatic Drainage Massage

What does the Lymphatic System do?

The lymphatic system consists of lymph vessels, ducts, nodes, and other tissue and is located under the skin.  Think of it as the body's sewage systems (gross, I know) that gets rid of waste in the body, such as toxins, bacteria, or excess fluid.

The lymph is a collections of the extra fluid that moves through the arteries and tissues to clean them out, before draining them through the lymphatic system.

However, there is no pump to push the lymph through the body and it relies on gravity and muscle contraction to move.  Therefore, any kind of manual drainage works by moving the lymph to the lymph nodes to eliminate the toxins and bacteria.

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

A lymphatic drainage massage uses very light pressure and long, rhythmic strokes combined with soft pumping movements to get the lymph fluid moving and direct the toxins to the organs that can properly remove them.
